Secrets from a landscaping company in Athens, GA

Hello friends, lawn care clients in Athens, GA, and anyone else reading this blog! Yesterday we posted an article we wrote about professional lawn care secrets, and when we were brainstorming about tips and industry knowledge points we could give out, we thought of way more than we could include in one post. So today is a continuation of yesterday’s post!

We often get asked- why should I pay someone to do my lawn care? Is it really worth it to hire a professional lawn care company? And to that we say that depends- it depends on your goals for your lawn, your time availability, and your priorities. If your goal is simply to mow your lawn once a week, then go for it! If your goal is lush, golf course grass, you will most definitely be better off hiring a professional. The reason for that is multifaceted, but most of it comes down to skills honed after years in the profession, industry knowledge acquired after years of Athens GA landscaping, experience over years of usage of various products, and more.

When it comes to applying products to your lawn, determining the best lengths to mow to throughout the year, the amount of water needed to hydrate, the right type of seeds to plant, and fertilizer to add, your lawn care athens ga professionals have experience doing all of that, and they know what works. While you may have to go through trial and error, lawn care is our passion, so we’ve put the time and work into making sure we’re up to date on industry standards. We want your grass to look it’s best, so if there’s anything we can do to help your lawn grow lush and green for spring, we’ll do it.

That being said, here are some more tips we thought of when discussing lawn care professional secrets.

  1. Choose your grass type based off of your location: this is a big one- different grasses grow best in different areas, so what grows best in Pebble Beach is not going to be the best choice for your landscaping in Athens GA. The soil is different, the rain amount is different, and different grasses have different requirements. If you choose a grass that does not handle humidity well, chances are it will be an uphill battle trying to cultivate a healthy lawn in Athens. If you choose a grass that is not drought resistant in california, you will also struggle. Such is life. For Athens, it’s important to choose a grass type that does well in heat, that can also handle chilly winters. Ask your lawn care professional for their best recommendations!
  2. Avoid weed control that works to prevent weeds, rather than treat them: if you’re reseeding a lawn, supplanting your grass with some seeding here and there, or are simply worried about the possibility of weeds, call your lawn care professional rather than buying a pre emergent weed control. Pre emergent weed controls work by preventing weed seeds from germinating, so if you have applied seed in your yard, it will also prevent those seeds from germinating as well. This is not what you want. We prefer to treat weeds, rather than prevent them, which can also inhibit grass growth.
  3. Decide your mowing cycle on the length of the grass and the season, rather than on a time frame. Ok, hear us out: it matters what length you cut your grass to, it really does. During the hotter months like july in august, your lawn depends on longer blades to get enough nutrients, and to protect itself from the heat. As the seasons change, so do the needs of your lawn change. As a professional company specializing in lawn care and landscaping in Athens, GA , this is one of those things you’re really going to have to pay attention to if you are doing your lawn care yourself, lest your lawn come up in the spring looking dull and yellow.
